Sara Barnett is an experienced and nuanced family law attorney who excels in advocating for help families impacted by intimate partner violence. A proud Sooner, Sara graduated law school from the University of Oklahoma. During law school, Sara practiced as a licensed intern in Child Abuse & Neglect Clinic, working for the Public Defender’s Office representing and advocating for children involved in the child welfare system. After law school, Sara worked as an Assistant District Attorney, prosecuting felony and misdemeanor domestic violence crimes, as well as, child abuse crimes and child welfare matters.

Additionally, Sara headed the county’s coordinated community response team, working with advocates and law enforcement to develop policies to strengthen victim’s access to resources and improve police response to domestic violence calls to allow for successful prosecution, accountability of offenders and justice for survivors.

In 2016, Sara was hired as the first on-site attorney with Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support in Dallas, Texas to provide trauma-informed, quality civil representation to clients in family law matters. Managing a team of attorneys and staff, Sara’s program was awarded the D CEO Magazine- Non-Profit Corporate Citizenship Award for Nonprofit Team of the Year in 2018. In addition, Sara regularly presents to lawyers, judges and law enforcement on the intersection of family law, criminal law and domestic violence.

A seasoned litigator, Sara is known for her expertise in complex child custody matters, divorce, modifications, domestic violence, substance abuse, and child abuse and neglect. Sara is in addition, a creative and skilled negotiator, who is equally skilled at settling cases as litigating them.

Sara loves traveling with her husband, trying new restaurants, and taking walks around White Rock Lake, with her poodle, Sully.
